I love Alan Rankin's photographs because they allow the subject to portray themselves through each image.  His images are all about the contrast, the lighting, and the story/personality of his models.  The lighting in the image of Seal is very dramatic and it gives you the impression that he is somewhat enigmatic.  The close up of just Ben Whishaw's face lends to the idea that he is comfortable with who he is because it's a straight-on portrait with very simple lighting and little to no excess information.  The photograph of Jarvis Cocker is one of my favorite of his color photographs because the background is a simple white while his clothes are darker and they make his figure stand out, also the position he is photographed in is unusual and makes the viewer question why he is captured that way.  The image of Rhys Ifans leads me to the conclusion that he has had a very eventful and at times reckless life.  In the portrait of Sienna Miller Rankin creates a narrative for the viewer and he does it with so little information, it's just a woman peeking through the blinds but it can lead to so many different conclusions.
